Gym Battles

I never really got into gym battles in Pokemon Go, and maybe I’m fairly alone in that attitude among regular Pokemon Go players. I thought, after playing Pokemon Go more regularly with my walks home from work, that maybe I’d give it another try. But it’s just daunting now. That screenshot up top is of a gym near me, taken at the start of the week. I thought I was doing well when I started catching and evolving Pokemon with CP’s in the mid-1000’s. Boy, do I feel under-powered now.

I guess I have to put in a lot more hours into the game. I’d feel completely discouraged if it weren’t for the fact that I was walking a decent distance anyway. It’s easy to just progress at my own pace, hatching eggs in the background, walking with my Pokemon, occasionally catching something new or checking into a PokeStop.

And I guess there’s an end goal, what with the level cap at 40–for now, anyway. Not that I anticipate getting there any time soon, and I sort of suspect that if I do get there, the goal post will have moved again.

I think it would be nice if there were an easier way to get into gym battling–perhaps some sort of tiering for players of certain levels. Maybe separate gyms for those Level 1 to 10, 11 to 20, 21 to 30, and so on. Otherwise, I think only the most hardcore, determined players (or, to be honest, those who simply have played more consistently since the start of the game) will ever really be all that competitive in taking and keeping gyms.

Okay, now to wrap this post up with a picture of my avatar with my trusty Bulbasaur pal, fittingly named Aizen (after my cat), from the start of this week:

  1. There’s so much potential for gym battles in Pokemon Go, but it seems like Niantic seems to have no problem with the simplistic setup they currently have. I personally hoping we get a more traditional battle system in Pokemon Go soon as opposed to the frantic tapping we do now.

That said, would you like to share your articles in our FB group? We’re a growing community of gaming bloggers and we’re always looking for more writers to share their work and discuss all things gaming. Just search for “Game Bloggers United” on Facebook. 🙂

    1. I don’t really think of myself as a gaming blogger so much as someone who just sometimes writes about games I like, but I look forward to following your group on Facebook! Thanks for the heads-up about it.
